Massachusetts License Plates

| Here's the story for Massachusetts: From about '75 to '85 the state did not issue front plates, this was to save money. Therefore, there's lots of cars running around with no front plates, so any type of vanity plate generally is OK (although they may cite you for it if they pull you over for other reasons, but it's a minor violation). In fact, the only reason they get concerned is that when the state started issuing front and back plates again, some unscrupulous people realized they could take the two plates and simply put them on the backs of two cars, saving the cost of registering or insuring the second car ! Gotta love American ingenuity! The "sprit" plates were jsut produced back in 1976. We tried to get a slogan on them, but no one could agree (I personally wanted "Tax-a-chussets"). - Thanks for that - Rich Carlson from MA |
